Hi,
I am currently working in science and have a year left to run on my contract. The job is okay but I'm sure research isn't for me in the long term. If I could just carry on working where I am I probably would - I'm fairly fed up with the job but it's 10 min from home and the hours are very flexible so it's worth it while my DD is so young. However, I'm going to have to look for a new position in a years time and it's unlikely that there will be funding where I am. A new job would probably involve more travel and there's no guarantee I could work part time although the hours should still be fairly flexible.
Since I'm not enjoying my job I was looking for other options and thinking about what I want. I'd love a job that can be fairly flexible and fit around my DD and any other DC we have. One idea that keeps coming up is bookkeeping. My DP works in banking and I have done a few of his financial courses with him - I enjoy doing them and there is something very satisfying about making the figures balance
. I have been thinking about doing a bookkeeping course (poss looking for work experience with an accountant???) then hopefully working from home.
It seems a great idea in theory but I'd love to hear from anyone who actually does this. How easy is it to find work (particularly as I won't have any relevant experience) and is it a job that works well with having a family? Also which qualification would you recommend - an AAT course seems to be well regarded and would possibly give me options later or would it be just as good to do a bookkeeping and accounts level 1 certificate?
TIA
