learning about childcare

I am a mother of a 4mnth old baby. In september my self employed maternity allowance stops. I have a place to do teacher training but don't know if it would break the bank in terms of childcare. Is there a comprehensive site which tells me all about childcare? I just don't understand the rules. For e.g. could he go to nursery at 8 months or does he need a nanny? i have no friends with babies so am a bit lost! any advice would help

Not sure what you mean about the "rules" - you can basically find anything you want (as long as you have the money to pay for it), for any age child - nursery, live in or live out nanny, childminder, friends/relatives caring for your child etc.

Some info on childcare options here.

So your son could go to nursery at 8 months, or you could hire a nanny, or a childminder - it depends on what you think would work best for you and how much you can afford.

Does that help?

There are many nurseries that take babies form 3mths old, so 8 mths is definitely an option. Most nurseries are open 8-6pm and may offer morning and afternoon sessions My sons have attended nursery on average frm 5mths as I had to return to work. The key is feeling confident that you have chosen the right place and to view as many as possible, I have created a free website to help you choose childcare and am more than happy to answer any queries to make your decision as easy as possible, with regards to your teacher training do they not account for any childcare allowance in your bursary? I know different counties have different funding?
