Thanks

I had a metal one. It had my details, logo etc in self adhesive vinyl - the same sort they use for van signs, so fine in the rain. Not sure if it would be ok underwater if that's what you're wondering? Hmm

Cost about £100, including full colour personalised signage both sides.

They are the work of Satan on narrow pavements. Angry [wheelchair user emoticon]

ah good point nicecage, there is space for it off the pavement though so i'll make sure i do that.

not underwater, but scotland cattleprod. is that the same thing? Wink

the clippy ones where you put your own posters inside seem to be the cheapest. just wondering if it's because they are crap.

The clippy ones are good if you want to change your signage a lot and display special offers etc., but ime they aren't 100% waterproof and the paper signs inside will probably get soggy if you have a big downpour.

They can be removed without warning if they are considered an obstruction by the Council's Highways dept so make sure you put it off the adopted highway.

RamekinSkywalker · 20/04/2011 20:26

eek. what's an adopted highway?

pavement outside a shop? is the building car park ok?

Adopted highway are the bits the Council maintain. Phone the Highways department and check - you don't have to say what it's for, just ask if the locations you're thinking of are adopted.

The pavement outside the shop is very likely to be so, at least in part, car park for the building less likely unless it is Council owned. However, the pavement outside a shop may be split into shop forecourt (unadopted) and pavement (adopted) and this is often, but not always, indicated on the ground by a change in the paving materials.

You'll probably wonder this at some point so I might as well tell you they don't need advertisement consent (a type of planning permission).

you are very useful! consider your good deed for today done. Smile

A pleasure. Smile

The sort you linked to is good because it won't get blown over unlike the A-frame type.

They are fine on private land, it's only on pavements they may be a problem. And you'd probably get a letter advising you to remove it rather than it suddenly disappearing one day. That happened to one of the shops I had once.
