Hi,

I had an interview last Thursday and haven't heard a peep out of them since (although I know a friend that was turned down on Monday for another job in the same department, advertised at the same time). I'm starting to assume that I haven't got the job, but I don't know how/when to chase them up. Is it acceptable to email the HR department today, and if so, how should I phrase it?

I really wanted this job!

C

Did they give you any indication when you might hear? There's only been four working days in between your interview and today which really isn't that long. They may not even have finished interviewing all the candidates yet. Unless they said specifically that you should hear before now, I would not call until after the weekend. Of course, it could be that they have offered the job to someone else and are waiting for him/her to accept before contacting everyone else.

Dh had an interview last tues & hasn't heard anything. It's v frustrating isn't it.

I would telephone and ask for feed back from the interview as it will be useful for you in the future. Then see what they say?

You will then get a answer as to whether you have got the job and if not feed back on where or what you can do better at another interview.

They didn?t give an indication Ann, and I stupidly didn?t ask! They had 5 positions available - my friend had an interview for a different one on Friday and was turned down for the job on Monday. So frustrating, I can?t think of anything else at the moment!

I've heard advice that in these circumstances, it's okay to call up and re-affirm your enthusiasm for the position. Don't explicitly ask if the decision is made, but if it is, they should tell you. That advice is from the US, though, so I don't know if it would seem odd in the UK.

When I was in a similar position I was told by someone far older and wiser than I my dad that whilst their decision was the most important thing in the world for me, I was just another bit of paper on their desk that needed dealt with. A quick call to remind them you're there wouldn't be wrong.

Hope you hear some positive news soon.

Thank you, I sent an email, so then they can deal with it in their own time, rather than putting them on the spot with a phonecall. Their HR department seems rather disorganised, but the department that I really really hope I'll be working for are lovely!
