Hi
I have just finished my degree and is a mother of a one year old baby. However i feel that i am now ready to go back to work. When i was around 15yrs old i was caught stealing Blush and was convicted, i am now 23years old. I now would like to teach but I know that you will have to do a crb check because its working with children, this will therefore come up on my record, does anybody know if it will affect my chance of becoming a teacher?

Hi there

I think maybe find out first whether the offence still shows on your CRB (and in particular in the type of a search they will do on teachers) and if it does, you should honestly confront any future employers and explain the situation hoping they are willing to consider your application regardless and understand that you are now a changed person... Best of luck! xxx

My sister was cautioned for shoplifting when she was 15 and has succesfully registered as a CM very recently.

I would say you need to be totally up front, explain what you did and explain the circumstances. If you lie, it is an offence in itself and you can be taken back to court.

It should show up on an enhanced CRB check which is what will be required for a teaching job. All convictions are shown on these checks no matter how old they are. That doesn't necessarily mean it would be a bar to getting a teaching job. It clearly doesn't make you a danger to the children, which is the primary reason for carrying out these checks. Be open and honest about it with any potential employer.

It will show up on the CRB but it is an offence which is irrelevant to the job Also after 8 years it would be spent ina Standard discloure. But this is an enhanced Disclosure FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROTECTING CHILDREN ONLY .I think it would be discriminatory for them to hold it against you as it irrelevant . Anyway you were so young at the time
