Hiya

Recently made redundant and want to put the money to good use to get professional qualification to improve my chances for getting my next job. Am intending to do a Prince 2 project management course, but was wondering if I could get anything towards that, tax free or something? Does anyone know? Am in the process of applying for contributions based jobseekers allowance. Does anyone know? Thanks

I'm not sure PRINCE2 is really worth it - I did it a few years ago and no-one has ever asked me to prove that I've done it. A idea might be to get the Book (£100) and learn the "methodology" - then tell people you've used PRINCE2. I guarantee they'll never ask to prove you're registered.

If you really want to do the tests book them seperatly after studying at home. Stay away from the courses they are expensive and not worth the time (IMO).

Hi Grevling

Just about every PM job I've been interested in has stated Prince 2 qualifications as a must. I have the books and flicking through them it all seems reasonably straightforward. I've worked within a fairly loose PM framework for a couple of years, so none of it was alien or completely unfamiliar. Thing is, I've never actually used Prince 2 in it's entirety. My problem is I know what to do in a PM environment, just can't really prove it. Agree, though, with what you say. Know quite a few people who've never used the skills after the course, it's more of a case of buying the qualification, if you see what I mean. It's a kinda ridiculous situation, but I think I'll have to play the game to get ahead. Like your idea re studying at home and then taking the test to get the qualification, may give that a whirl.
