adeas on a job that does not require any or much childcare

Hi,
I currently work 3 days a week and pay so much in childcare that I am left with £350 month. My job can be very very stressful. If I got to keep the £1,000 + that I actually earn and did not pay so much in childcare I would probably carry on doing it.

BUT, I don't see why I should be putting myself through all this stress to take home less than £100 a week.

I can't use any friends or family to help out with childcare.

I work in social care and have a degree in psychology but would be happy to do something low skilled and work my way up - but if I did this the job would have to be within school hours or evenings, nights and weekends - so that I wouldn't be paying out in childcare.

Any bright ideas?

Many Thanks x

An au pair is a good choice for reasonably priced childcare but only works if you children are are school aged and you have a spare bedroom.

Join an agency as a health care support worker, then you can choose when to work - many private agencies provide domiciliary care in the evenings and at weekends, it won't be a high wage but better than nothing.

Warehousing. Lots of evening shifts starting at 4pm availible.

Hi, thanks all for your advice.

Funnily enough sidge - I have just seen an advert for 'caregivers' the hours totally to suit so have left a message about that. All I would need to do is 12 hours a week to equal what I am earning now.

Am also looking at teaching assistant posts.

I used to do care assistant work - did a 12 hour shift on a Saturday earning around £75 - not much tax to pay as earnings so low. It's tiring and frustrating and stops you going away at weekends but I preferred it to working 3 days a week and losing most of the money to childcare.
