Or keep quiet ??

I started work in the NHS in Sept last year. Over the winter I picked up every bug going, which is apparently normal if you've not worked in a hsopital before.

Then after xmas I had huge childcare and family problems and was off for 6 weeks with depression.

I have just gone back, but have been looking for other work, with more suitable hours and closer to home.

I now have an interview on Wed morning. Do I mention my sicknesss record and explain, or not ??

It depends if they ask you! If you're offered a job, you'll presumably be asked to fill out a health questionnaire, but from memory I think that's confidential.

Thank you, I am just wondering if it will come up if my employer gives me a reference though ?? I know my ref for my current job, stated how many sick days i'd had.

This job would be so ideal, as it is a 5 min drive from my house and the hours couldn't be more perfect.

Suppose all I can do is cross my fingers and hope for the best really.

There has been a few threads on this on this area - but I think the conclusion was you don't tell them at interview, your current employer can't tell them without your permission - but if you have an ongoing condition that might need some adjustment it might be worth telling them them once you have a job offer - but from what you say I don't think that comes into it. Good luck

Current employer can certainly give information about number of days off sick, although cannot given specific detail about illnesses as that would be classed as 'sensitive' information under the Data Protection Act. How many days off there have been is a perfectly valid and usual piece of information to provide in a reference.

I wouldn't volunteer anything at present. Once you've been offered the job they may then request that information from your current employer. If they get something back saying you've had x number of days off sick, they are then likely to contact you about it, at which point you can explain and (hopefully) reassure them that there is no ongoing problem.
