Where are all the term-time jobs?

Where else can I find jobs in schools?

I look out for them in the local paper - they are mostly over-subscribed, I don't even know what to put on the application form to 'stand out'.

Have you looked on yuor LA's website?
Good luck though - there aren't many jobs at all at the moment
Do you currently work? What sort of job are you looking for, what are your qualifications and what are your skills?

Look on your council website Polly - some don't get advertised in the papers.

It's not a good time TBH - many schools are cuttung staff to balance the budgets.

Do you have qualifications? Are you looking to be in class or on the admin side?

I have loads of commercial insurance industry experience, currently a bored SAHM (of 6 months Blush and just looking for an ordinary admin type job in schools so that I can be with kids during holidays etc

I have applied to a few but someone said to me that I may have been putting 'too much' info about previous work. I can work a CV but an application form is too general - ifykwim.

I made some calls to some schools this afternoon to see if I can volunteer re reading to children so that I can at least have experience of being in a school enviroment

I think school admin still have to work in the holidays sometimes, don't they?

StealthPolarBear · 29/03/2011 21:57

Well coucil app forms are very like CVs - there's a standard section for all your details andf then a cut n paste "Why are you suitable for the job" section
(which does have to be tailored, there's nothing worse than people who do paste their CVs) but allows a lot of free reign

I have a more or less term time job - work only a few hours mostly from home in the hols. It was actually advertised as a full-time position, but I was able to negotiate on hours, so if you still have contacts in your old industry, might be worth a try?

Lilymaid · 29/03/2011 22:12

I managed to negotiate what was essentially a term time job by demonstrating that a previously part time job covering the whole year would be better done full time in busy periods with me not working in the quieter periods, which are largely the school holiday periods - Christmas, Easter, Spring Bank Holiday and August.

OliPolly · 29/03/2011 22:15

No, I wouldn't go back to insurance for all the money in the world!!! It was good then, but way too stressful. I need my sanity Smile

I have checked our LA but nothing on there Sad

Jobcentre?

I know I am being picky and that it will take time.

Try all of the local school/college websites directly, they usually have a jobs/vacancies tab. Term time jobs are like gold dust though and pay very little but maybe worth it? I had one but quit because the way I was treated as support staff in my particular school didn't make up for being off in the holidays.
