Extra freelance work when employed

Hello, just spent 10 minutes on hold with HMRC so hoping for some quick advice here -

I am employed full-time and am just starting to do 2 days a month freelance for a small charity. They will pay me a daily rate and expenses quarterly by cheque. I am the only person getting paid by the charity.

What do I do about tax and NI? Do I need to register as self-employed, or just do an annual tax return, or anything else?

many thanks in advance for advice!
