Suggestions for retraining

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone has any suggestions for jobs i could retrain to do. I was a marketing manager but after baby 2, the cost of childcare makes it unfeasable for me to return to my old job.

Like most mums i would ideally like to find a job a could do from home and could fit in with school hours. I don't won't to do direct selling or owning my own franchise. I'm happy to put a bit of time into retraining.

Has anybody got any suggestions that have worked well for them?

Thx

Damn - just came on here to post this myself (in fact are you my twin? Marketing Manager/2 kids etc).

I'm always interested when people say ... oh I'm going to retrain. Its very common in the expat community but also when I was in London. But I never hear as what or how it goes. Does this mean people don't actually do it - and in which case what do they do?

Will follow with anticipation - even if its just to see if someone has an actual story of when they did it!

What are your skills and interests?

What about training as a beauty therapist and offering facials, nail extensions, waxing etc. A friend of mine has done that, and her business has been so successful she's had to convert her garage into a therapy room. She just doesn't book appointments for times that don't suit her and her family.

I work a lot from home doing academic research and report writing. Would your skills and experience translate into marketing research? Perhaps, bowlofcornflakes, stevienicksand seoraemaeul you could get together and set up a marketing company employing part-time mums? (With your own creche.) Wine Wine

Don't forget that it will be a lot cheaper and easier to organise a bit of childcare and manage your work once the DCs start school. I sometimes wish I'd just taken it a bit easy in those expensive early years.

What I really want is a website which allows people who want to jobshare to meet up and apply for jobs together, matching their CVs and getting themselves the perfect balance between home and career while not having to deal with employers who can't think how part-time would fit in their corporation. How about setting that up?

What a brill idea. I like the beauty therapy idea and have already been looking into doing courses although that can take a year to train up.

Re the website you would like what about setting one up yourself? I think a lot of companies in the not too distant future will be seeing that it can work for their businesses and being very short sighted at the moment in trying to make part-timers go full time refusing applications for part-time working etc.

I know, I should do it. But I already have two part-time temporary jobs and am spending a lot of time trying to get into a permanent part-time job, and there's DD to run around after ... Also, i don't have web skills. But if anyone else does and wants to give it a go I'm in!
