my dh is in a full time teaching role and has a specific area that he teaches in he currently earns 25k.

Another full time colleague in another department who earns more then dh is retiring and there is pressure that maybe instead of advertising for a new employee that dh should fill that role as well as his own as he has the experience in this area too.

Obvously there will be times where both courses will clash but it is easier for someone to fill dh present role (even though this department is very short staffed so they may need to juggle it between them).

The thing is the new role has alot more responsibility and theres more teaching involved and practical responsibility of maintaining equipment.

So effectively dh will be doing two roles with the newer role having alot more responsibility. But the thing is it was mentioned that he might get an extra £1000pa which works out about £55 a month surely dh could ask more for that or refuse to take on this role?

depends what his contract says

my mum is in a similar position, but her contract states that she must do "any other duties required"

I do think its says something similar perspecif to his role and department but this is another department that he will be working for.
