Anyone Know Anything About Additional Paternity Leave

My due date is the 6th April but I've been scheduled a section 22nd March. Looking at the Directgov Site www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Moneyandworkentitlements/WorkAndFamilies/Paternityrightsintheworkplace/DG_190788 It says that when a baby is due on or after 3rd April the father may be able to take additional paternity leave. My DH would love to take an extra 2 weeks but I'm not sure if he'll qualify. I was just wondering if anyone knew if it's possible?

thanks.

Materntiy stuff usually revolves around when the child is expected to be born not when it actually turns up.

It is all about the due date that was put on your MATB1, so if yours is 6 April it doesn't matter if baby arrives before then, your DH would still be entitled to take some Additional Paternity Leave when you go back to work, assuming he meets the other requirements as in your link.

There are new changes to paternity leave as of today: www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/whats_new_apr11_changes_to_paternity_leave.htm
So your partner can take whatever is left from your 52-week allowance if you don't use the full amount. He will get paid the statutory minimum even if he takes the last 3 months of your leave (for which you would be paid nothing).

Good news!

Unfortunately that's not quite right. The father will only get statutory paternity pay if it's during the period where the mother would have had statutory maternity pay. You can't have more than 39 weeks all in.

Oh no! I was so excited.

Thanks for putting me right X

Some of the reports on it are really confusing - the press are notoriously inaccurate in reporting employment law!- so it's really easy to get excited. sadly, too good to be true normally is! Shame - it might have been a good incentive for men to use some of the leave, but I suspect that there was no budget for it.
