Hi all

I have a dinner lady job in my dc's school, have been there for two weeks. I enjoy working with children, and am getting on with the job asking for help when I need it. I have been told it's 'common sense.'

However, can anybody give me some advice if a child hits another and denies it etc? Questioning techniques etc I'm sure I'll learn in time.

Oooh??? Common sense?? What you would do isn't always going to be school policy is it? I mean, you parent as you think is best but is this what is required. I really think you need stricter guidelines and ask for serious issues like this to be clarified if necessary. Plus for all concerned, you, your school and the children, sort out the minor lovely dinner lady stuff - grazed knees and not eating veg :) leaving that for those with all the training!!

Ask to read their behaviour management policy

If I were you I'd also ask for other policies:
Equal ops
Bullying
Child protection (or Safeguarding)
SEN

& about your first aid responsibilities; you can't just patch children up
