Junior Colleague Issue

hi

I work PT - 3 days a week.

following a period of restructuring my problem is that my junior colleague (full time employee) seems to be getting all the work and I am left with the S*e adminy work.

I am qualified professionally and she is not.

I feel I am being pushed out (or to the side anyways) and being underutilised.

What can I do to make the situation better?

I have also signed up with agencies but to no avail - either no jobs or the firms have seen enough candidates.

Plus I made a mistake in work - would cost a grand total of £18 and I am worried sick about it and that they could see that as an excuse to get rid of me.

Help - I am worried sick about the whole thing.
TIA

I think this is one of the main hazards of part time work. Arrange a meeting with your manager and say just what you've posted on mn. It maybe that the manager doesn't realise or thinks you would prefer an easy life as you're part time.

Are you doing the same job as your colleague - how is she 'junior' exactly, is it a more junior role or are you at the same level/same job but she is just less experienced than you? Is she doing stuff that requires a professional qualification she doesn't have?

When you mention you are feeling underutilised to your manager, what does he/she say?

She is in a more junior role - she is not at the same level or job as me. she is studying for the same exams I took 5 years ago - so I would have 5 years experience plus in the role.

And I wou;dn;t say that she is doing stuff that requires a professional qualification - just far more interesting than the work I am given.

crystalglasses - I think you are right it is a hazard of working part time.

When I have talked to manager, he is all like you are not being pushed sideways, firm is in a process of change but my arguement is surely they have some idea of what my role is now or am i to find it myself.

Is this the answer to be more proactive?

I'm in the exact situation and have said to my boss that I feel underutilised and undervalued- given that I was at the top of my game before mat leave, it's a real kick in the teeth to come back and be given all the crap to clear up.

They've done bugger all about it, so I've set myself some new initiatives (doing admin at a ferocious pace and dealing with all other responsibilities above and beyond what we're targeted) just so that I can sit and twiddle my thumbs in meetings and say ' this is not challenging.' In the hope that I can get some of my old responsibilities back.

It is sad that they don't believe this unless they see me actually sitting doing nothing at all.
