I'm keen to get out of the corporate world and am trying to think of things i could do, enjoy and work in with family life. Can anyone give me any tips, on salary, the trials and tribulations i could expect, where is best to trainlocal collage or proper paid for training school.Do you think i am mad?

Answering, to avoid it being unanswered, and to bump it back up the pile. I went back to college a few years ago, and retrained as a beautician, because I was more interested in this than hairdressing, but with hindsight, I should have done hairdressing. People seem to have their hair done more often than waxing etc, so more regular trade. From those who I have known, they have not made much early on (if they were working in a salon), but expect to earn well as they build reputations. Anyone who is willing to go mobile, certainly where I live, could do well, particularly from house-bound, and sheltered housing complex. These often have a hairdressing room, so minimal equipment needed. I got the option to train one night a week night school for beauty, but you could weigh up cost/time benefits of this as opposed to private college via details on the internet One of the downfalls of mobile is apparently every nice old lady wants you to have a piece of cake with your cup of tea...Even if it was the 6th one that day.

I used to be in the industry and would say don't do it. You'll need to go to college to get a level 2 nq which is a year full time, or you could learn in a salon with a lot of young people on minimum wage and long hours. Work is hard to come by and pay is rubbish. Also wouldn't recommend it if you're not arty and creative.

Do you have any hobbies you could make money from? Are you into aerobics or running? There are short courses available and money to be made from it.
