Voluntary redundancy in schools

Does a Company (or in this case school) need to advise all staff that there is an opportunity for voluntary redundancy? I'm aware thjat an employer can refuse voluntary if you apply for it but oif you were never given the opportunity is there any case / legislation?

No, your employer does not have to inform all staff. They should inform staff in the areas affected. But if, for example, they are reducing the number of TAs there is no point in advising secretarial staff of an opportunity for voluntary redundancy as it doesn't apply to them.

Even within the affected area, if your employer would definitely not select you for redundancy you haven't actually lost anything if they don't give you the opportunity to volunteer.

Thanks - yes I knew that they have to tell only those affected but as one of the teaching staff told my DW that she already had voluntary agreed we could not understand why all the main teaching staff had not been informed. There is now a meeting after school for them - so thats when news will be official.
