AIBU Re Interview

i have an interview for a fab jon on Friday. It is local only 30 mins drive away.

I have just found out that if I am successful at this satage I will be required to travel to Northamptonshire (120 miles) to attend a 2nd interview on Tuesday.

Firstly i will have to arrange an extra day of childare about £40 and it will cost me same in fuel or on train. I just cannot afford this and expenses are not paid.

It is via an agency who did not seem to understand my situation and I got the impression he thought i was being difficult.
I could understand if it was a high flyer job but it is a p/t finance office paying £14K.

WWYD - should I decline the interview or should I go knowing that I can not go to the second? and hope their group acct may come to the local office

Go to first interview and then if you get a second interview ask for your travel costs to be reimbursed. You can't ask for childcare costs to be covered though and that is probably where agency went off on one. Interview costs are normal and you can usually get them paid in cash at end of interview.

It would be normal to ask for either train fare, or fuel, calculated at 40p per mile.

Thanks

I will aim to get my travel costs covered.

I didn't mention the childcare thing to the agency , just the travel and he said it wsn't normal practice to cover it.

It would make nore sense for their group acct to come to the local office IYSWIM

I'd agree. If you're asked to go to the second interview, ask for travel costs. That's a significant journey, so they'll probably be anticipating people asking. I think the agency is right, it's not normal to cover travel - but nor is that a normal sort of journey to an interview.

I have to say in your local area its not normal to ask for /expect travel expensises - although some employers offer them but for an out of area interview I would say its much more usual to pay them - at least in mine ond OH's experience
