Musings on potential inequalities at work - thoughts?

I was off sick on Monday with D&V, temp and all sorts of other things. I work full time in an office where only 3 other people are FT and everyone else is PT. When the PT people are sick on the days they are supposed to be working, they just come in on a day when they are normally not supposed to be working and so don't get a sick day against them.
As I am FT I don't have that option, so every time I am sick (which as it happens is incredibly rare - I've only had about 6 days sick in 6 years until the start of this year, but Monday was my 4th day since Jan) I have to take it as a sick day as I can't work any other days. I was just wondering if that was fair or not? It doesn't actually matter as we're not big enough to have any kind of policy which kicks in if you've had x number of sick days in a year or anything like that, but I was just musing. If for example a potential future employer asked to see my sickness record it would show every day I've been off sick, but other colleagues who only work 3 days a week yet are sick far more often than me would show an unblemished record as they had made the days up. Not sure if that's fair.. Confused
So, does anybody understand what I'm saying? Any thoughts?

I'd be much more pissed off if I was a part timer and was expected to make up my sick days.

never heard of part-timers having to do this.

It would cost me a fortune in childcare if I had to do this. TBH I'd rather have a 'blemished' record.

This happens in my work place, I usually take a holiday instead of sickness so I don't lose money. I don't get paid if I am off sick.

I'm with Muddleduck on this one - the main "unfairness" is the expectation that part-timers can't actually take proper sick leave. I'm pretty sure they'd be able to make a complaint about that if they chose to make a fuss.

What about part-timers who aren't free to come in on any other days? Some people have more than one part-time job, or have other committments on the non-work days.

The system ought to be fair to everyone - and that should mean everyone getting sick leave.

Part-timers are able to take sick leave, but IME they are very reluctant to do so as they think it looks like particularly 'bad form' and thus they lose out relative to full-timers. Am quite Shock that OP sees it as unfair to the full-timers. She should try being in the part time camp and feeling as if you can never have a day sick on the firm's time and money.

If you've only had 6 days in 6 years that's incredibly good - are you really that concerned about it? Or is it a pay thing - do you not get sick pay?

Are the part timers forced to change their days rather than be off sick, or is it a flexible option that is open to them?

It's really not that I think the PT people get it easier - there's no pressure on them to make the time up - they just happen to be people who don't have any childcare commitments (all 50+)or other jobs, and they decide to come in one of their usual off days, although no-one expects them to. It was only me wondering if that was something which happens in other workplaces too. If I worked PT I'd be pissed off if it was expected of me to come in rather than take a sick day.
It really just was a random thought I had and not related to anything in particular as I'm not worried about my sickness record at all, and am perfectly happy if my colleagues choose to come in when they are better, or take a day off sick, which of course they are perfectly entitled to do. Reading my original post I realise it might look as though as I was complaining about it, but I think that's probably because I wrote it very quickly (at work!) and didn't look at it properly. Very interested to see all the opinions though - certainly if I worked PT I would take a sick day if I was ill on a usual working day.
I have a different issue regarding time off to care for dependants, but that's a whole other thread...
