Recruitment Agencies

Hi

I applied for a job through a recruitment agency but it turns out it was a role I had previously applied for but pulled out at interview stage (didn't appear to be much flexiblity and with DS i needed that)

So, I had dealt with them before and wanted to explain things as to why I didn't want to go ahead with the role (or things that I needed confirmation on before proceeding again)and what I was looking at in furture roles.

So I sent a e-mail. I had previously dealt with the consultant when I moved to my current role. (which seems to have gone tits up through no fault of my own but management changed and now pushed sideways)

I have yet to hear a reply - it was 2 days ago - did I do the right thing? Should I ring them? I never got a not delivered receipt so am assuming they received it.

Recruitment consultants in my experience can be very lapse or just after their fee. Try go direct to companies, especially in this climate.

I have been astounded to find that recruitment agencies just simply do not get back to candidates - unless you are successful ofcourse.

It is difficult to even find out what happens to your applications.

Work out who you want to target and go direct. You will then save yourself the bother of agencies and all the frustration they bring.

In this climate who would want to waste fees on recruiters??

I work in a recruitment agency. Consultants are often very busy but are often happy to give feedback to candidates. I would call and ask to speak to them. If they are not available just leave your name and number and ask them to return your call. In my place emails always get replied to but they can take longer to get a response than calls.

It is a good idea to go direct to companies you would like to work in but many do only go through recruitment agencies as it saves them lots of work. Also many positions are advertised as temp but it may lead to a perm position.

Consultants are no busier than anyone else. I found when using consultants very very few actually understood the businesses they were recruiting for, and were interested in achieving their fee targets.

You have to ask yourself why a company is going to a recruitment agency in this climate. It makes no sense. Agencies do not do a great deal of work - they just forward on details.

I'd call them. I've found recruitment agencies to be useless - they rarely bother to even acknowledge you unless you're successful - and at least if you speak to someone they have to actually say something rather than just not bothering to reply at all...
