Hello, this is my first post on here!

I hope someone might be able to offer some advice or guidance.

My husband is in the RAF and I currently work as a teacher. We know that life in the military can be unpredictable at best, and had been told at the end of last year that we would be where we are until 2013 so decided this would be a good time to start trying for a family.

Late last month, DH was told he was to be posted sooner rather than later...3 days later we found out I was pregnant. He has been given details of his new posting which is too far away for me to commute into work.

I have had to resign from my post at school ending in August, (EDD is late Sep) so won't get any maternity pay.

I am very worried about how we are going to cope on one salary and no maternity pay to help tide us over. Is there any other kind of support we may be entitled to or if not, have others found themselves in this situation and how did you manage?

Many thanks in advance

I think you should qualify for Mat Allowance wouldn't you? Which is similar to stat mat pay. Look on the Dept of W and Pensions website, or google it.

Congrats, and hope the move/posting goes ok.

Maternity allowance which is 39 weeks at £123. I assume if he's posted you'll be in forces accommodation so presumably rent isn't an issue.

Thank you so much Redundant and Grevling. You're right rent is one thing we don't need to worry about (thank goodness).

Will google Maternity allowance

many thanks again

Hi can you get some temp job in new area -teaching is good for that and is there no way you cant just start maternity leave early instead of resgining - maybe stay with a friend in the week for a few weeks -
you prob get tax credits and child benfit when baby is born

crw1234 many thanks for the link - very useful!

Unfortunately, I don't think I can retract my resignation as the school is facing redundancies and me leaving has spared the dept the stress of redundancy where others are still facing the axe. :(

I feel much more reassured that the drop in income is not as steep as first thought.

thank you all x
