I'm not working at the moment and was provided with details of a temp proofreading job via the Jobcentre a couple of weeks ago.

Am having a telephone interview very shortly and couldn't find the original job spec to refer to so I just went back on the JC website.

Job title has now been reworded as freelance (and hours varied too).

I've always worked PAYE, and have no idea how this would impact or whether it would be hassle. The money's not good but it's better than JSA...

Any advice from someone who has a clue would be gratefully received Confused

I've got half an hour!

have a look at this - it was written for ebayers but the principles are general

sorry, I know it's longer than half an hour, but I'd be VERY wary. If you accept freelance work, does that change your employment status so you lose job seeker's allowance and other benefits? If it's freelance, what guarantee is there of continuing work (probably eff-all)?

Thanks for that link TP.

Hadn't thought of the wider implications- DH is SE so it's hard enough when he's not working.

Sounded interesting but I think I need to speak to JC tomorrow and find out where I would stand.

Damn Sad

Fingers crossed I'm being unduly cautious and there is some way of pursuing this without risking your benefits. But important to check first. Good luck with the job hunt!

Thanks Edam. I don't think I can do it but I'm going to get some advice today.
