Pharmacy workers, I would love your advice!

I left my job in spring 2010 after a year of mat leave as I couldn't fit the commute in with childcare for DD and DS. I need to get back to work and was considering training as a pharmacy tech - so would need to find a student position and train on the job for an NVQ. My background is research science, then scientific sales, then working in a clinical research organisation (firstly business development, then administration after DD arrived). What I would dearly love to know: what does the day to day work actually entail, and how does it feel to you (interesting, varied, or monotonous but ok)? What is the likelihood of finding a part-time position? What are the wages like these days (cheeky, but otherwise I can only find broad salary ranges on the web!)?
I would like to have a job where I can be a trained with a recognised qualification, rather than the general admin work that I was doing most recently, and thought that my laboratory/customer relationships background would lend itself to pharmacy tech. I am going to be 39 soon and have this horrible panicking feeling that if I don't sort my working life out asap I am going to muddle along forever Confused!! If you got this far, thanks, hopefully some real life experiences will help my make my mind up!
