Suitable job does not feel suitable - employer refusing redundancy

Hi ladies. My company was taken over and my role became redundant just before I went on maternity. The new company wanted to retain me and said I should go on maternity and we will talk alternative roles before I return. They have now approached me with 3 choices. One demands frequent travel that I can not do with 2 small children, the other two are within different HR field (I am a specialist and these are a generalist and a more specialist roles) with less responsibility. They will keep my T&Cs the same but the jobs are awful and I have asked if they would consider redundancy. They said no way as all they have to do is to offer me a suitable alternative... Has anyone been in this situation and managed to negotiate a package?

It's not really about 'negotiating a package'. Either the roles are suitable or they are not - either you are entitled to redundancy or not.

Impossible to say from your post whether or not either of these roles are suitable.

What about a trial period? That would enable both parties to establish whether one of the roles is suitable or whether any training is required to make it suitable. If it becomes clear it isn't suitable you then have ammunition for your redundancy.

Are you a member of a union? If you are it might be worth having a chat with a legal rep from there, or maybe post this on the legal page on here? I was always under the impression that companies offer other jobs as an alternative to redundancy. Although I have been made redundant 5 times never has there been a feasible option for me to take apart from redundancy.
