I stars working pt for a local council at the beginning of July last year. It seems that this was for a 6 month period, an oversight on my part I didn't realise it was just 6 months Blush. I have been verbally advised that this has been extended for another 6 months, should I receive some sort of confirmation of this in writing?

The funding for my post comes via another local council as I cover a joint service. There funding is secured for the next 2 years although the INS and outs are not yet confirmed.

I am 8 weeks pregnant, so my contract could run out (if not extended again) before my baby is due, although I could have gone on mat leave. How does effect me, my mat pay if I am entlitled to any? As I will hit 1 years employment does that give me any useful rights in this situation? Is there anything I haven't thought of?

Tia

yes you should ask for confirmation of your contract extension with new end date.

In terms of maternity pay, for SMP you need to have been employed for 26 weeks by the time you are 25 weeks pregnant, so as long as that's the case, you will get it, even if your employment ends after that point.

In terms of NHS enhanced mat pay, no idea, you'll need to check the policy.

Thanks flowery. It's not NHS and my understanding is that I do
not get any enhanced maternity terms. Does what you said about being employed mean if I were to get a new job, without a break in emolument I would still get mat pay? If my contract runs out and is not renewed, how much mat pay would I be entiltled to, full?

God why did I think it's NHS? I'm not reading properly! Sorry!

You get SMP if you are employed continuously by your employer for 26 weeks before you are 25 weeks pregnant. If your employment ends after that date it doesn't matter, you still get full SMP.
