hi
my husband's job is under threat and he is thinking of training as a primary teacher.

Will it go against him that he did a pgce to be a secondary geography teacher but whilst on the course he realised he couldnt cope working with disruptive secondary age kids and although he finished the course he didnt get qts and went back to his job which he had been on a break from to do the course.

Some primary schools are just as difficult as secondary schools. Don't assume that smaller kids = less trouble. You have to WANT to be a teacher, not need the money or you will never survive the work load, stress and lack of validation.

He may find it hard to get the course funded. Call the TDA and ask.

Oh just read if he completed the course he doesn't need to redo it necessarily. Call the TDA

Has he spent much time in primary schools? If he couldn't cope with the secondary pupils he may not like working in primary either (personally I think I'd find primary MUCH more stressful!)

Maybe he could spend a few days shadowing at a primary school before applying? This will allow him to check it's the right move before applying and it will look good on his application.

In terms of 'will he get on?', a carefully worded email to the tutors responsible for admissions might help. I did this before applying for secondary PGCE because my degree isn't in the subject I wanted to teach. The replies helped me to decide where to apply to and also gave me some advice about how to improve my application and qualifications.
