"i would ask this of a man or woman, how would your family feel about you being away for 10 days at a time"

whist reading it it sounds innocent, try to answer that without divuging how many children you have and any childcare in place etc. even family life. thought it was weird what do you think?

also, it is a christian charity and i got asked ' We don't know anything about you from your application form...' the monitoring form obviously seperated to allow for unbiased interview '...but how comfortable would you be going into a house of worship and talking about God'

try answering that without declaring your religous beliefs - i did try, i really did, i talked about the equality and diversity training i had been on, about working in multicultural areas, about going to mosques and temples...when i blatently knew thats not what they were getting at

..so then she reiterated "would you be comfortable talking about god" she may even have said 2spreading gos word" or something i can't remember exactly.

just weird? or as a christian charity - totally fine?

they also asked me 'what's the maddest thing you have ever done?'

and 'what gives you JOY!

fking joy

anyway - what say you? oh and feel free to add your own!

Re: travel -I think they should be asking how you feel about it not "how would your family feel about you being away for 10 days at a time*.

Sounds like a crafty way of finding out your family circumstances/childcare situation etc and (in their eyes) any possible knock-on effect it could have.

As for the "maddest thing you've ever done" and "joy" questions Hmm....not sure what I would have said to those but I could imagine lots of inappropriate examples springing to mind Grin

The travel question is a bit odd.

I would have thought the question to ask is something like "You understand that the role requires being away for up to 10 days - are you comfortable with that - what sort of notice will you need" etc etc

Whereas they asked how her family would feel about it, which seems odd to me. That's her business, surely. Whether she wants to do it and can do it is their business.

Was the job a vicar?

Being prepared to spread the word of God in a place of worship is a fairly important aspect to the job.

Tortington · 31/01/2011 16:01

Shock i'll have you know it could be a vicar post...thats not so incredulous surely? Grin ...ok ok..it;s not.

yesyes norbert, thats what i was thinking re: the phrasing of 'how would your family feel'

i could have said 'fine' and not elaborated i suppose but i don't think that would have scored many points - and like i said i'll take anything at the moment!

good luck getorf fingers crossed x

Yes fingers crossed (assuming you still want it after weird interview!). I just got a job, but scary as I haven't worked fulltime for nearly 10 years. Will be big shock to df & kids!

As the guru on teens, what are your tips on leaving them at home alone during school holidays while you are at work?

Tortington · 02/02/2011 17:40

yes, i'll take anything at the moment.

No after school clubs at our secondary (as lots of kids travel a long way do need to catch buses, etc) Not too worried about during termtime as they wouldn't be alone for too long, holidays are the tricky times...

Tortington · 02/02/2011 21:18

yeah know what you mean , dh and i kinda used our holidays and time owed in lieu
