Pregnant at end of Maternity Leave

Dear mumsnetters

In my 4th decade a new pregnancy is hitting me hard....!

I'm exhausted, but feel I should count myself lucky that my request for flexible working has been accepted. I can return to work two days a week.

DP is very helpful with DD (10 months) when not at work, but he is there A LOT! He likes the idea of my resting and enjoying the time with DD. We're also lucky that money isn't a huge issue but I don't fancy the idea of dependency.... I realise I may have to get over that one....

I feel so tired, but worried - if I don't take the part-time work, I may just be out of work a year from now and no clearer about whether I want to be a SAHM unless I try it now.

Any ideas/ advice?

(The whole maternity pay or maternity allowance issue is scrambling my hormonal brain. Am I right in thinking it's about the same, other than the first 6 weeks when on MP you get the 90%?)

Thank you for reading

Sorry, should've explained, as well as getting things off my chest, my dialemma is the length of the working days. Would it be reasonable to ask to work shorter days? I don't even know when to break it to the boss I'm pregnant again!

I'm 42 and 16 weeks pregnant with DC2 and returning to work next week when DD has just turned 1. I will be returning full time for the 4months or so before I go on next mat leave and need to maximise my mat pay. If I was in your position and didn't need the money I wouldn't go back to work at all - just my view.

Thanks, Stangirl and congratulations on your pregnancy. I have had the same advice from friends. Personally feeling a bit stir crazy and dd's need for company makes the nursery seem an attractive option.

Will return to post when effects of Swine Flu jab have worn off - feeling terrible!
