does anybody use these places to gets work? And if so, how successful are you?

I've thought about this before and now we are relocating abroad I've decided I have to take the plunge to get more 'remote' work while I set myself up there.

Can you give me a rough idea of how much you make (if that's not too nosey) ad any hints and tips?

I was just recently looking at People Per Hour, but haven't tried it.

So, really, bump! Grin

I've used People Per Hour before (but to buy services rather than sell them) for my own business. I personally thought it was very good, if that helps at all.

ooh saffra what did you look for in a bid? I've shoved in a couple and am waiting. I assume that you need to get a couple of successes to build on but of course that, in itself is hard! From no bids won to 524 won would e good!

overthemill I posted a bid for a writing job, and what I looked for was (in no specific order!):

  • A tailored response - virtually immediately discounted all the generic responses that could have been sent to anyone
  • Relevant industry experience
  • Good examples of work

And, to a certain extent, price too (e.g. not too high or too suspiciously low).

HTH!

Everybody I spoke to who is a journalist say that good jobs are very few and there is lots of dross. So to find the good jobs you have to invest time you could use to pitch or find clients.

overthemill · 01/02/2011 22:00

all that sounds about right. I am an excellent writer with specific industry experience, not journalism, but need to do work remotely while I relocate until i can get local work again.
To a certain extent i don't mind what i do, ie any kind of writing, as long as i can pay food bills for a few months.

I will look again, some of the jobs are so dodgy sounding i'm put off anyway!
Dont want to get stuck writing students' essays again .....

Oh dear lord, did you really have to write student essays?!

Good luck, hope you get something from it.
