Well all the TA jobs I've seen have been part time and in the region of £12,000 pa.

Teaching salaries I think can be checked online.

teachers range from 18,000 up to 40,000 as you accrue years experience and take on extra responsiblities and pass through thresholds. TA's are going through a restructuring at the moment (single status) and their salaries could be lowered- most I know are on around 12-14 some HLTA's are on 19,000 but some get no extra at all. HTH

Teachers on the main scale earn somewhere between 19-30k a year (approx). You are on a scale of M1-M6 which you move up every year (provided you have met performance targets) and then when you get to the top (M6) you can apply to go through threshold which is a higher payscale (you have to submit an application, supported by school to show what you have achieved results wise and it can be refused). You can also get TLR points for taking on responsibility for major things such as Literacy or Maths throughout the school, and management points for being a head of phase, year, etc. Headteachers and deputies are on a pay spine of their own I believe.

it's so badly paid

Hulababy · 30/01/2011 21:18

I earn approx £9 an hour (at most) as a level 3 TA.

As a teacher I was earning much more.

nymphadora · 30/01/2011 21:25

I was on 16K as a specilist TA with SN allowance.

cumbria81 · 01/02/2011 15:33

I don't think they earn much because they are only paid for working school hours whereas teachers are expected to work on a professional contract and so are salaried as such.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 01/02/2011 15:35

I've recently been made redundant from my job as a TA. I earned £10,000.

nymphadora · 02/02/2011 08:34

I was on a good deal. 52 week contract. I was p/t but f/t was 28 hours but we worked much longer hours so the 52 week contract made it fairer. We regularly worked in the summer holidays & my class did moderation in Whit week.

They're changing the contracts to 39 weeks now but can't see them getting the rest of the year as good will
