hi everyone,im not sure where i stand regarding this issue but hoping for some help.
I work as a nanny and basically 2 wks ago I told my employer that i was pregnant (the news got mixed reactions) I gave them a letter in writing confirming my pregnancy and all was well until i had a meeting where my employer said that they had been thinking for some time of making some financial cut backs and as one of their biggest outgoings id be first to go.prior to me confirming my pregnancy my job seemed secure.im not entitled to redundancy pay as i havent been there for two years.what i would like to know is...is it possible to let me go after ive confirmed a pregnancy and out of the blue this happens? i will seek legal advice but just want to know if im the right to.

It's certainly perfectly possible to make someone redundant who is pregnant, they are not obliged to keep you on just because you are pregnant if they would otherwise have made you redundant. However pregnancy shouldn't be a reason for redundancy.

Do you know what they are going to be doing for childcare? If they are going to manage without a nanny and either use alternative childcare or none at all, then on the face of it it's a genuine redundancy situation although I agree the timing does seem incredibly fishy.
