Continous service v reckonable service

Hi can anyone tell me the difference between the above?

I have more reckonable service (eg started earlier)than my date of continous service in my contract. I asked for the reckonable service to be taken into account and apparently it has been noted but my date of continous service remains the same. What implications does this have if any?

Reckonable service is about pensions - years service that count towards your pension, whereas continuous service means service with (usually) the same employer.

Does it make sense in that context. Sometimes, in the public sector usually, service with a different employer will count towards your pension.
