Can you be clearer. Are you currently on mat leave or sick leave?

Maternity leave and sick leave are two different things. You do not have to take aditional mat leave (the bit after the 1st 6 months).

If you are unable to return to work due to ill health you will need a GP certificate. I doubt a GP will sign you off now for March though so my advice would be to deal with things as if you WILL be going back to work i.e. setting date etc but let your manager know that you are suffering from PND so it doesn't come across as a shock if you are uanable to return.

hi
i am on mat leave andi think your right best to plan as if i am going back. if i dont and then produce a sick cert for the day i am due to return then do you know if i will get paid.....

It would depend on your sick pay policy. Are you normally paid for sickness from the first day? The normal policy will apply to you - being sick has nothing to do with maternity leave. If you broke your leg the day before you were due to go back, you would take sick leave without worrying about it!

Do you have a union rep you can speak to about this? Also, you may want to check whether there is any counselling/support that you can access via the union or occupational health.
