My boss has issues with me, on a number of occasions he has singled me out from the rest of the team and made comments about me to other team members like 'if she doesnt buck up shes out by January'

His lastest is an email he has sent to another manager who has asked for help with some work, he is based in another office and would mean travelling across the country, my bass has volunteered me to help, i said yes no problem as long as i have prior knowledge of the travel so i can make childcare arrangements

However in his email to this manager ( of which i was not copied in) he says 'Vinegar will struggle to commute (she is a single mum) so the work will have to be done remotely from here'

i am furious! how dare he label me and use my single parent status as an excuse Angry i have never said i would struggle to commute and find his comment unprofessional, inapropriate and bordering on discrimination

what can i do about ?

the other manager has replied to his email and copied me and the big boss in on it, which is why i have come across it

i need to know how to deal with this, im so angry i cannot look at him

I think in this situation as you were cc?d on the email I would click reply to all and send an email back stating that you think there has been a misunderstanding and that when your boss spoke to you about the travel you stated that you required a bit of notice due to child car arrangements however it was not a problem and you were looking forward to the task involved.

I am not sure of how big your company is but then I would forward this email straight to HR and explain to them the circumstances and that this is not the first time your boss has undermined you in front of more senior people to give them a bad impression of you. I would then ask them to arrange a meeting with you to discuss the other issues with your boss and demand that they do something about it before your boss puts the company in a situation where they are facing a potential court case for discrimination and potential constructive dismissal.

What a shit he is!

Thanks, i sent an email to the other manager saying i am quite willing to commute and have no issues about it, coping in my boss and his boss

i also sent an email to my boss saying i found the comment 'a single mum' inappropriate, unprofessional and completely irrelevant, and would he please not use this phase to label or make excuses for me in the future, and reiterated my willingness to travel

he has since sent me an apology

annybanny sorry to hear you are having problems with your employers too, i have no advice for you because i am no expert (hence the reason i asked for advice myself)

You may get a better reponse by starting a new thread and explaining in more detail exaclty what you case involves

Good luck!
