Redundancy and Notice

Just a quick question I hope....

DH now in 30 day consultation period. The likelihood is that at the end of the consultation period his role will be redundant and there will be no suitable alternatives. He will get statutory minimum payment.

However company are now saying if role redundant at end consultation period he will leave 3 months later (notice period). If his role is redundant surely they have to pay PILON, not make him work his notice?

Bit annoying if he has to work - I've got a to-do list for him......

The expectation in law is that he will have to work his notice period unless negotiated otherwise.

Certainly no obligation for his employer to PILON just because (he thinks) there is no work for him to do.

They can either find him some work on a temporary basis during his notice period (if his job has actually ended that suddenly), put him on garden leave or PILON but it's entirely up to them.

Bugger. Looks like he'll have to do the painting at the weekend then Grin

Thanks!
