tax credits with varied hours

Hi
I hope someone can help me out with this, here goes...
I am working 8.75 hours on a contact as a mid day meals supervisor. Management have offered me some more hours cover all day one day a week as a TA. They agreed to make it up to 16 hours, great, but it's only classed as overtime, no contract. It's only until half term at first, that is 5 weeks.

My dilemma is this; if I take the offer, my income support will stop and housing benefit will be adjusted. I don't expect to be better off, but worried as it is still possible there may not be hours for me after half term. Then I will have to stop tax credits.
Any one who can advise me on the infernal benefits system please help. I want to take the work and will be effectively promoted, but the stress of money worries and dealing with all the agencies is daunting.

U will be better off working 16 hrs and claiming working tax credits for 5 wks, then when its goes back you'll go back to whatever u r on now, u continue to get child tax credit regardless.

There r plenty of online benefits calculators to help and a quick call to tax credits should give u all the answers u need.
Chopping and changing is hard work but if u can get 16 hrs then its worth it.
