Does anyone else work for TESCO's?

I have just filled in an application form for them.

As a dotcom delivery driver three evenings per week.

The form was really hard though as you had to describe yourself from a choice of 4 statements - one of the 4 which was MOST true about yourself and one from the same four which was LEAST true of yourself.

I found it really hard, as reading it back it could be read that I am unmotivated and unable to work as part of a team....aarrrgh!! Which is totally untrue and I'm now worried that I will be a reject!

Anyone else on MN who works for TESCO's and had the same application form? How did you find it? And did you get the job?

do oyu have ten inch talons though
( see hread)

Fangache · 05/10/2005 14:57

Screameagle - My DH is Stock Control Duty Manager with Tescos.... he know exactly how to answer those to guarantee you an interview!

Whats it worth???

ScreamEagle · 05/10/2005 14:58

Fangache · 05/10/2005 15:00

I got all the answers for another MN'er too, but she never got back to me to say how she did! Can anyone remember who it was now?

If you type out a couple of the questions then I can get the answers for you tonight.... and CAT you tomorrow?

LadyCodofCodford · 05/10/2005 15:03

" do you have ten inch talons"
" yes"
" you are in"

ScreamEagle · 05/10/2005 15:05

Ok - here's just one example:

Choose ONE statement within each block that is most true of you and just ONE which is least true of you.

I am the sort of person who...

A) works hard to meet others needs
B) maintains very high standards of work
C) keeps my commitments to others
D) learns new things quickly

I mean, come on - all those things are true of me, so how the heck to I choose which one to be the least true of myself?

You could really trip yourself up on these questions - or is that the idea? And some of them I just seem to contradict myself on.

Maybe this going back to work is not such a good idea after all!

OP posts:
Fangache · 05/10/2005 15:22

SE - There are scores for each answer.... 2 or 1. Below a certain score means you don't even get an interview. But I think it is pretty self explanatory..... they are not trying to trip you up.

Cod - You're not kidding.... you should SEEEE DH's toenails! >spew

ScreamEagle · 05/10/2005 15:26

So.....which would you put as your answer for the question in my last post....just out of interest?

OP posts:
Fangache · 05/10/2005 15:28

A = Least
B = Most

ScreamEagle · 05/10/2005 15:32

I put A as the least too but C as the most.

OP posts:
Fangache · 05/10/2005 15:32

SE - A and C are basically the same though.

ScreamEagle · 05/10/2005 15:34

Hmmm.....I see.

Maybe I need to review some of my answers.

Would you like me to find out tonight for you?

BTW No1 is definitely A = Least C = Most

Fangache · 05/10/2005 16:03

SORRRRRRRY, Correction! B = Least!

ScreamEagle · 05/10/2005 16:05

Well I got the first one right then....phew!

Tell your dh I would love him forever and ever if he could!!!

OP posts:
womba1 · 05/10/2005 16:07

ScreamEagle... i was a personnel manager for Tesco before coming a SAHM. To be completely honest, it wasn't so much the answers i'd be interested in...more the condition of the returned application form. And if you enclose a cv with covering letter, all the better!
I agree that the forms appear to want to catch you out, but that isn't the intention. As they have to be used for so many different job positions, they can be rather confusing but just go with your gut reaction and when you get your interview, you'll knock 'em dead!!

ScreamEagle · 05/10/2005 16:09

Womba - I was considering puttin a CV with my application but as it doesn't specifically ask for one, I wondered whether it would be absolutely necessary?

OP posts:
Fangache · 05/10/2005 16:15

Womba1 - Oh my DH has been told to score the applications to narrow it down!!!!

womba1 · 05/10/2005 16:19

ScreamEagle.. a cv isn't neccessary but i was always impressed that a potential applicant had bothered to submit one.

Fangache.. does your dh receive the applications first hand or are they filtered through personnel? All of my duty managers were lazy sods and wanted me to vet the applications first!
Ps.. i'm not for one minute saying your dh is lazy... i'm sure he's fabulous!!

Fangache · 05/10/2005 16:22

Womba1 - He's only just been signed off Options..... so he still has that air of enthusiasm... give him time!!

He gets them straight to him.

womba1 · 05/10/2005 16:27

Fangache... oooh, a relative newbie... i used to eat them for breakfast!!
I'm most impressed though that the application forms go straight to him and i bet his pm must love him for it!
I suppose because i had soooo many forms to filter, i was easily impressed by a cv or covering letter.. anything to make the applicant stand out.

staceym11 · 05/10/2005 17:20

my dh used to work for tescos when i first met him and they pratted him around an awful lot, they put him on options then had to stop the course so others could join, then re-started, then the team leader had a breakdown and they got someone new in and as she wanted to bring more new people in he'd have to have started it all over again. he got p*ssed off and left, he is now working his way up the ladder to become a sales negotiator with Barrats!!!!

ScreamEagle · 05/10/2005 22:43

As it's been absolutely AGES since I have even thought about applying for a job, can someone please give me a few reminders about what I should include in a CV??

OP posts:
staceym11 · 06/10/2005 10:50

schools you were at and qualifications you got from which exams, any previos work going from most recent to furthest back, any hobies/interests that are linked to the job, anything you like really, eg. if its for a receptionist you could inc how many words you can type a minute etc.

if you find a template in word it generally tells you what sort of thing to put in!
