I have about 7 years experience in the insurance industry but have wanted to be a RC for a while now. I got into the ins industry by accident and finally decided to leave about 6 months ago. I have been on a break but now want to go back to work. Can you help me with some tips pleas? I am aware that being an RC is sales driven and i think i could do it.

Thanks

I am a Recruitment Consultant.

Whereabouts are you?
There are plenty of Recruitment Consultants specialising in the Insurance field, that would be a great place to start.

Try looking at some jobs boards specific to your industry and you can check the websites out of Consultancies, they often advertise jobs there.

It can be sales based, but a good consultancy is more relationship building and consultative, not simply firing off unlimited CVs to get one that "sticks".

Best of luck!

Oh thank you so much LizzyLou! I am in Bucks and specifically looking for jobs in the Milton Keynes area.

There should be a few round there, I am in different sector (Legal) and in the Northwest, but Milton Keynes should have some Insurance Consultancies I would have thought.

See Here

Just give them a call, or send in your CV. They'll be pleased to have someone on board with Industry knowledge Smile

Thanks again, i have already started making some notes.

One last question, how achievable are the targets as some of the jobs are based on OTE earnings?

It does depend, honestly.
In my last role I started on a v low basic and then as I got promoted (hit targets but also did "extra" work, like talks at colleges/industry magazine articles)the basic was v good.

All firms have different bonus structures tbh, you want to get away from the really "salesy" agencies, they can be cutthroat and not v professional ime.

I started in Recruitment in an awful place, really dreadful, used to just cry all day. But then my last place was fab and I did v well.

I work in recruitment! It's real fun.

I actually work at a company with an unusual business model - we divide recruitment into sales and delivery. So, I work with candidates rather than sales - developing their careers, interviewing, giving advice, preparing for interviews etc. I attend client meetings but don't actively sell.

On the other hand, the sales team exclusively deal with sales and rely on delivery for the candidates. We all get bonuses etc, it isn't competitive and it isn't horrible target-driven - a disgustingly competitive agency is a no-no in terms of work/life balance and happiness.

It's a thought if you're not entirely sure about sales, or indeed specifically want to focus on sales rather than candidates. :)

This is a site I personally used to get a job www.myrecruitmentspace.com
I applied direct to one of the jobs, although I could have got a friend to refer me and then we could have split the fee - didn't think of that at the time!!
You could 'practice' being a consultant yourself by referring people you know and making fees for yourself as well as perhaps applying for the jobs.
Best of luck Wink
