Apply for a new job?

NAMECHANGED

I have been working on a pilot for a year and it has, largely, gone really well. I work for a large public sector organisation and am getting sick of the backstabbing/back-covering nonsense that is going on, particularly since the cuts have begun to loom. Even with my own manager, I have not had any enough support, and have been left accountable for any issues which have arisen despite him agreeing to manage this project and me.

My project is to be expanded - at least 5 x workload (have still been working on my substantive job around this project), so no longer a small pilot and managed completely by me, no additional staff. No pay rise and I am not a project manager. Prob great for my career in the long run if it goes well...

A job has come up within commuting distance that feels like it should be mine but it is probably a bit out of my reach, although I tick almost every box on the job spec.

It ticks so many boxes for me personally and if I can secure an interview despite lacking a couple of areas of experience. AND it is with an organisation I really admire (3rd sector).

Should I just stay put, giving the current project my all (I love what I am doing - very innovative and in keeping with my values) or apply for the other one and decide if I am offered it...? Thank you for reading this

ps closing date tomorrow, application filled in Grin

Hi sh0uldi - think you've already decided! Go for it! :)

Thanks! I go back after being on holiday tomorrow and am, for the first time since I started working there, not looking forward to it...

I meant to ask whether a potential employer would be more impressed that I had set the project up and it is to be expanded or unhappy that I would leave before it has reached its potential?

Sounds like you should definitely go for the other job, but have a very good story about why you're looking at the moment given the exciting time your current project is in.

True, true. I have been with my employers 10 yrs+, so that should look good.

Go for it. If you are offered it, you can THEN think about it. And the situation at your current job may have changed/got worse by then anyway.
Or, you may not even get it. You only worry about making a decision , at the pioint it is offered to you. Up to then it is all speculation, and mindless/needless worrying.
GOR FOR IT GIRL !!
