Expressing at work - Help please!

I am returning to work full time in January , DD3 will be just over 7 months old and is BLW. I am using some annual leave in January so for first month will only be doing 3 days a week. DD still has a couple of feeds during the day though, my mum is going to be looking after her I will be expressing at work, should I express around the times that DD would have her feed? That would be just before lunch and then mid afternoon. Problem is how do I take breastpump to work to keep it sterile, I have an avent manual pump. Then after I've used it the first time I should sterilise it again before using it mid afternoon? I can't really take my microwave steriliser too! I can just see me turning up at work with shed loads of stuff! It's not really feasible either, I am a nurse manager of a mental health secure unit, so very limited as to what I can take into work.
Please could you share your experiences, what works for you, and if you've had a similar experience and what to do about the sterilising.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Maybe you could try cold water sterilising tablets.

do you still need to sterilise? I've always followed our NCT bf advisors guidelines which were to sterilise pump etc in the morning, use the pump and then put the whole lot in the fridge between pumping sessions. Presumably you'll have access to a fridge to store the milk in, can you put the pump in there?

I have a Tomee Tippee manual pump and it all fits in to a small box the size of a lunch box so I just wrap it in a plastic bag and put the lot in the fridge.

The alternative is a travel steriliser, I expressed from 4 weeks to supplement ds's bedtime feed so I used one of these when I went on holiday, I managed to get all the bits in for an electric breast pump, so it's quite roomy. You just have to juggle things around a bit to fit it all in.

I did this - I took a sterilised avent manual pump into work and then used it once or twice during my shift and put in back in the fridge - access to a fridge is a must but apart from that, you shouldn't need anything else except for a spare sterilised bottle and a cool bag for travelling to and from work. I did this for 7 months from when my DD was 5 months til a year and it worked fine. I would express when your DD would noramlly feed, if that's possible.

Many thanks, I did not know about putting the pump in the fridge, it makes perfect sense, will do this. Xmas Smile

You don't need to sterilize, (bottles don't need to be sterilized either - there are quite a few threads about this). Just wash out after.

I used a double electric pump which saved a lot of time.

Do you have somewhere where you can pump in peace?
