Keeping in touch - maternity leave

PolkaDotRudolf · 21/12/2010 13:34

I am currently on AL before my Maternity Leave officially starts on 12th January.

I have just had a message on my home phone from a marketing lady who is working for my employer asking for me to ring her so we can have a chat "for a few hours" - I was off sick immediately prior to starting my AL hence she has not had chance to speak to me at work.
She wants me to call her back...

  1. I have a 2 year old. I cannot just "chat" on the phone "for a few hours". I wish!
  1. Am I going to be paid for this?! This is not her decision as she is only a consultant and not part of our organisation.
  1. I am going to be claiming Maternity Allowance - will if affect this if I inisist on being paid?

Sorry should add that as my son does not return to nursery until 10th January I will most likely be on official ML when this call takes place.

Is that a reasonable request?

You are on annual leave.

telephone and say 'I'm sorry but I'm on annual leave at the moment, and am really busy with my child. If you'd like to make an arrangement to meet or speak on the phone at length, I'd be happy to on one of my keeping in touch days, once I have started maternity leave'.

hairyfairylights · 21/12/2010 14:30

or better still, phone your boss and tell her/him that you won't be answering this person's message.

And how did she get your home number? Does a breach of data protection regulation come in here?

Even when you are on maternity leave you dont have to do it if you dont want to.

KIT days are voluntary.

She must have asked work for my number and they have given it to her. My home number. But then my mobile doesn't work well in the house and they know that....

I have emailed work asking for this woman's email address as I don't want to speak to her really.

I get paid £6.50 per hour FFS!

I would ask work to contact her stating you do not wish to participate and tell them you are not happy they gave an outside agency your contact details.

I would be annoyed too!

PolkaDotRudolf · 21/12/2010 17:10

Right I have emailed the woman saying I'm on AL until 12th so I have some time to think about what I want to do...

Talk to your work about data protection. They have no right to give out any contact details.

Shocking how toddlers delete voicemails isn't it? Wink

lal123 · 02/01/2011 11:01

What on earth does she want to talk to you about? Maybe find that out first and then tell her politely to fuck off? If this is a private company calling you (and not contracted by your employer) then I'd also get in touch with your employer and ask how she got your private home telephone number?

PolkaDotRudolf · 02/01/2011 12:40

She's a consultant working for my boss... I imagine she just got my number out the phone book at work or asked someone to give it to her and they clearly didn't think I'd mind!
I think she wants to talk about the marketing I had been doing before I left but to be honest without my computer in front of me I can't help her much so the conversation is going to be quite short!!!
I have emailed her saying I'm on AL until 12th and she emailed back saying she'd call me on 12th then :-s I'm just not going to pick up if it's not convenient and I will ask to be paid.

Oh and I will disable my answerphone on 12th so she won't be able to leave another message it will just ring out hahaha!!!
