how long did you wait to hear about the job?

Had my second interview last thursday and still not heard a thing. Is this usual? I've even emailed them, as they said they wanted someone to start immediately and I need to notice to my freelance clients if I'm not returning after Christmas. But they haven;'t even acknowledged the email... Getting really frustrating.

If you are a first choice, I'd expect a call pretty much straight away. If you are a reserve choice they may not say anything for a few days until their first choice candidate has already had chance to accept/decline the offer.

The longest I've waited to hear after a job interview was five weeks. (and I did get it!)

Depends on the industry really. Every employer bar my current one has told me the same day, but every job I've had here has taken weeks.

Thanks for your replies. Unseen, I thought the same, that I might be on the reserve list. But I do remember the office manager telling me the boss was working abroad all this week, so maybe when he said he'd call me this week he'd forgotten it wouldn't be possible.

Rhian, that's good to know. Sort of. Usually I've heard within a day or two. And I've also worked in offices where the rejection letters get sent out immediately so who knows...

Still, they can't be that keen can they? The longer it takes, the less likely it seems. Part of me just wants to forget it and get on with booking in my usual clients, but if I do, then it comes up, I'll let them all down and don't want to get a bad reputation.

Well I finally got the courage to contact the company director as the office manager wasn't replying to emails, and he's offered me freelance work from the new year. In some ways this is the best result ever, as I'll still be around for the kids more, and can fit it in with my existing clients who I really love working with. Not as much money but it feels like a better lifestyle overall. So long as the work he's offered materialises, this is brilliant news.
