Hi,

My DP and I are thinking of ttc in January and I have been offered an interview for a pt time role which is 1 hour less a week (17 hours) for double my currant salary more or less with a full salary pension.

I applied for this job ages ago and presumed I had not been selected for interview but it looks like I have been. I guess my question is do I mention it at interview- i already have 1 dd who is 1. Should i dely ttc- which will be very hard as i am so broody! Could they sack me if i get pregnant during my first 6 months working for them?

I would have the new baby and be back at work in 6 months due to the small shift pattern and my wonderful flexible childcare (ie my mum)

No don't mention it. Just because you are ttc doesn't mean you are going to immediately get pregnant, and just as you wouldn't tell your boss once you are in a job that you have started ttc, don't tell potential employers that you might get pregnant in the near future either. Give them an opportunity to make a decision about you purely on your merits rather than having personal issues clouding things.

No they can't sack you for getting pregnant in the first 6 months or otherwise.

I would go further, I would say you are actually being really unfair on the potential employer if you tell them.

A good employer will know that they can't discriminate against someone for planning maternity leave, but it's no employer's ideal scenario. If you tell them, you force them to make the decision with all that weighing on their shoulders. It's far better that they make a genuine decision on your merits and then handle anything else if it happens.

They can't sack you for getting pregnant. However, you may not be entitled to enhanced maternity pay (if they offer any) if you have short service, so do factor that into your thinking.
