Left previous employer on bad terms(their fault). What to put on new job application?

A few years ago I went to work for a small firm - run by husband and wife.

They were difficult to work for but I did my job and things were OK. Then I found out I was pregnant with my first child and as I was suffering bad morning sickness I told them immediately that I was pregnant.

They were disgusted - it was obvious and they made life quite difficult.

I really tried to struggle on with work despite being quite ill and getting no support at work. I developed severe hyperemesis grav(sp?) which ended up with me in hospital on a drip.

While I was off sick they made me redundant.

I was too ill at that point to argue but eventually saw a solicitor who agreed I had a strong case.

After several months the company closed and I was worried they might be able to win the case so I dropped it. We couldn't afford the solicitor's fees if we were to lose and I had a new baby and DH was out of work.

After I dropped the case they re-opened in a new location with a new name but same business.

This was several years ago and I am now applying for some part time jobs.

What do I put on the application about previous employer? I don't want to lie and have done nothing wrong but I don't have a reference from these people and have no intention of asking for one.

Will employers think I was at fault/ a troublemaker etc?

Any experience or ideas welcome.

Thanks

Say your previous employer closed down. And leave it at that.

I agree. Previous employer ceased trading.

Thanks for the replies.

I have written references from other employers that I asked for when I left those jobs. Will potential employers not wonder why I don't have similar from most recent employer?

I would never pay any attention to pre-written references anyway, I'd always want to contact ex employers myself. Pre-written references could have been written by the candidate or by their mate or something, so they are not really worth the paper they are written on, as it were!
