This month I will take home just under 2k for the month. I'm in a sales job and the commission is great. The problem is you can never tell what the atmosphere will be like as the manager has mood swings. Also they expect us to work the whole day without a break.

So I am thinking of getting a different job, but o knowv I will not make the same amount working part time in another company. And I am a single mum so could really do with the money.

Part of me thinks I would be crazy leaving a job with that kind of money. And the other part of me thinks I cannot work ling term for a man that treats all of his workers like rubbish... I'm wondering if I should do a less stressful job but quite like to be challenged. Help....

I wonder what would happen if you took steps to address the manager's behaviour? A wise person told me that when challenged, bullies back down.

From my experience this is very true. I would suggest you look at assertiveness training (which helped me) so that you are able to remain where you are, as I get the feeling that that is your ultimate goal.

Hmm I think it would be difficult 2 challenge him, but may be worth a try, better then just leaving and having regrets...

Please look through other threads about ppl being bullied by their bosses first, so that you make sure you do it right.

One thing I will say is that your challenge should be evidence based. So a number of specific examples should be included when you speak to him. Then send a followup email summarising your discussion and enumerating those instances of his behaviour.

Good luck.

Working for a number of hours without a break of 30 minutes is an offence under the HASAW Act. Perhaps a post in legal would be worthwhile.

I sympathise with the reasons you have for being put off the job. But don't underestimate the huge stresses of working full time for less than you are currently being paid - less time to see kids, childcare costs and not being able to make ends meet.

If you can isolate yourself from boss's stress and just quietly think 'plonker' and get on with your job... £500 take home pay a week for part time work relieves an enormous number of other stresses. You might find you'd be swapping one stress for a shed load of others and may regret it. (Though if you're that good in sales, they'd want you back probably.)
