Ofsted Registration for holiday playscheme

Hi Mumsnetters,

My first thread, so go easy on me Smile

I want to be a supervisor on a holiday playscheme, just wondering if anyone can clarify the OFsted reguirements for this, as i'm having trouble understanding all the wordy documents on the EYFS/Ofsted websites.

I have been told that i should have a NVQ 3 in childcare, is this a written (non-negiotable) requirement?

I have "A levels" which i am told are level 3, and then a level 2 in childcare, and tonnes of experience, but am i right in thinking this is not enough?

TIA

If the holiday playscheme is being aimed at children who attend school in Reception year or older, (i.e.until 31st August after their 5th birthday) they will then be covered under the Early Years Register, older children are covered under the Childcare Register which is split into 2 parts, compulsory & voluntary. Playscheme leaders usually undertake Playwork qualifications as opposed to Early Years qualifications but as you have a level two that would qualify you for an assistant's job but not a supervisors job as those are usually level 3 jobs.

However if you are prepared to do the training neccessary to gain a level 3 & the playscheme has other qualified supervisors/mangers there when you would be working I think that would be ok. You don't say what your experience is, is it working with young children or with older children as e.g. Cub/Brownie leader or TA in a school as those sort of experiences would be looked on favourably as well.

Good luck, good playscheme leaders are sorely needed, I work as a childminder & have every respect for a good playworker.

Hi Badgerhead, thanks for the reply!

The children are 4 and up. I don't have time to take a level 3, as i am intend to go to uni next september.

I am a TA in a school, and have lots of experience of other playschemes, clubs and nannying.

I hoped that my experience + a level 2 would be enough to be a supervisor, but i am guessing that is not the case?

Thanks Badger,

Tomorrow

As you are a TA that might well help, there is no reason not to apply as qualified playworkers are still quite thin on the ground. Good luck & let us know how you get on.

Thanks again for replying Badger,

So its not a legal ofsted requirement for supervisors to have level 3?
