Job Application - asking for details of every job I have ever applied for or not?!

Hello

I would appreciate your suggestions as to exactly what is being asked in this question that has stumped me during an online application.

'Have you ever been refused employment in the past? If yes, you will need to provide full details on this should you progress with your application.'

Do they mean every job I have applied for and been turned down for? Are they going to want to see my many letters of rejection?!

Thanks for any advice!

I would interpret that as for reasons like you're not permitted to work within the area, you don't pass security clearance or are not able to get clearance to work with young/ old, have had very poor references so an offer has been withdrawn.

scurryfunge · 04/11/2010 18:17

Or you have no entitlement to work because of visa restrictions.

bentneckwine1 · 04/11/2010 18:21

Thanks for the responses...there were already a number of questions about visas/security etc. This question was beside another about having ever being dismissed from work - which I answered no to.

Maybe they are trying to catch me out - seperate the wheat from the chaff!

I think it means refused as in for legal reasons rather then turned down as in unsuccessful job application.

SparklePffftBANG · 04/11/2010 18:22

no it means had an offer of employment withdrawn, due to entitlement to work / convinctions etc

bentneckwine1 · 04/11/2010 18:24

LOL 'separate' - good job I haven't posted the application yet!

That makes much more sense than having to provide all my rejection letters! Thanks everybody for your help.

Thrilled for you!

What are you going to wear?

bentneckwine1 · 08/11/2010 11:15

BarkisIsWilling - thank you very much for the good wishes. Just a telephone interview first thing tomorrow morning so possibly will be wearing my pjs!! Next stage would be an assessment centre...already starting to panic a little about what to wear to that...going to need a haircut and some new shoes!!

Will keep you posted!

"Just a telephone interview first thing tomorrow morning so possibly will be wearing my pjs!!"

  • I would suggest getting fully dressed and even putting your shoes on - might subconciously make your frame of mind and tone come across as more business-like and professional.
bentneckwine1 · 09/11/2010 11:41

Thanks for replying flowerybeanbag - it was slightly tongue in cheek when I said about my pjs...sorry if it came across as though I wasn't taking it seriously enough.

As it was I was up, showered, dressed and had taken the dog for a walk to tire her out so she wasn't annoying me to go out!!

I had also done all the breakfast dishes and tidied up...because even though they couldn't see into my house I wouldn't have been able to concentrate in a messy house.

This job is perfect for me due to hours, location and many other reasons...fingers crossed. I have to wait around twenty four hours to hear if I have passed this stage.

Thanks to everybody for your interest and advice.

No don't apologise - I didn't think you weren't taking it seriously, just that you may not have thought things like what you are wearing (and the state of your house!) may affect how you sound on the phone and how easily you can concentrate.

Hope you get good news!

bentneckwine1 · 10/11/2010 10:44

Just had am email telling me that they are not progressing my application on this occasion. Pretty gutted because the job was exactly what I was looking for to fit round childcare and caring for my disabled dad.

At least I have had the experience of a telephone interview which was a new one...back to the drawing board.

Thanks everybody for your encouragment.
