Best flexible working pattern - 2 days in the office and 2 day off or alternate days in the office and at home

Going back to work in December when DS2 will be 9 months old. I am using my annual leave to work a 4 day week initially though am hoping to make a flexible working request to do a 4 day week permanently. For various reasons the day off will be a Thursday. I am also allowed to work from home one day per week which is currently a Monday but I have now asked to change this as Mondays are usually busy and a good day to be in the office. Trying to work out whether it would be better to work Monday, Tuesday and Friday in the office, Weds from home and have Thursdays off or Monday, Weds and Fri in the office and Tuesday from home with Thursday off. Friday would obviously be ideal but not possible as someone else in the team works from home that day. Am thinking it would be nice to be in work one day and then home the next day as I would feel like I am never away from the children for too long, however, I worry one day in and one day at home will be too bitty and not allow me to finish things. My boss is ok with either Tues or Weds from home. What does everyone think?

I would work Weds from home. Fridays are also sometimes last minute crisis days, while Mondays are the busy days because of those who loafed off on a Friday. I think I'd have a better weekend personally, knowing that I hadn't missed Friday and double loaded my Monday.

Hope it works out!

I would go for 2 days at the office then 2 days off. I work a strange pattern involving
2 days at work, day off, day at work, day off one week. Then 4 days at work the following week (Friday off.)I get my head into 'work mode' and find it easier to work the four days in work, in a row. When I have a day off midweek I still think about work because it isn't done for the week. I suppose it depends on your line of work to some extent and how intense things are. Is it easy to 'let go' of work on your day off or would you you think about it still? When my DS was pre school I worked 2.5 days all together and then was at home for 4.5 days in a row and I found this the most productive both workwise and for DS - he had the continuity of 4 full days with me. Good luck with whatever you do- I think we are lucky having choices still in this day and age! Grin
