Employer contact after redundancy

I've just been made redundant and apart from the many other issues which are being dealt with by my union solicitor, I was asked a very strange question at my handover meeting. TBH it wasn't really phrased as a question, more a statement - 'so it'll be OK to contact you if I have any questions'. I was a bit taken aback, as I have been made redundant and therefore don't work for them any more. It isn't particularly amicable, as there is both budget for my post and work still to be done, plus other issues relating to notice periods and whether the redundancy is related to pregnancy.

So I replied that no I didn't think this was appropriate, and wouldn't be happy to help them out. Was I right to say this?

Thanks in advance for any opinions/advice.

your choice, really. they can't make you speak to them!

Well, yes, that's what I thought. Just wondered if others thought it was reasonable or usual practice or of I was being unreasonable to think 'stuff them'. I know which one I prefer, but hormones being what they are I could have been overreacting Grin

Tell them if they need your services and expertise, then you will bill them consultancy rates for any questions.

If I were you I'd take the 'stuff them' attitude Grin

and I like Lindas suggestion!

It is the job that is made redundant not the person. Surely if they still need the expertise required by your role and it cannot be covered by someone else still working for the organisation then it calls in to question whether in fact the position is truly redundant at all ! Hmm
