Been looking for an admin job for weeks now

Not getting anywhere. Masses of people applying for the same job. Have moved my search from my local area over to the main city that I am closest too.

What can I do to make myself more appealing to someone reading my CV. Its 2 pages long and briefly details my skills. I tweek it a bit if I feel it needs it depending on what I am applying for.

Getting a bit disheartened as most of the time my application isn't even receiving an acknowledgement.

try local council sites

Didn't want your post to go unanswered. Perhaps NHS jobs? In our area (S.E.) we're always looking for good admin staff.

Most positions require you complete an application form and tailor your expericne to a job spec. If you are just sending off your cv speculatively or instead of their form it probably won't go far tbh. Agree local council, county/city council, nhs websites etc also lcoal and national charities worth checking out. Alternatively could you volunteer (many councils have bureau where positions are posted) to get you started with contacts and experience.

temping agency?? Not alway viable if you have DC's/ childcare to sort but monies good if you can do it and it will give you recent experience.

Everything I have applied for has either asked for a specific form to be completed which I have done or have asked for a CV. I have read things properly so not just blanket copied my CV.

Will look at the NHS. Council have a recruitment freeze.

do chekchte council website though - it owntl only be jobs at the council but other public funded positions (libraries, schools, social services etc) which may still have turnover and be recruiting replacements because they don't have to look internally first.

our county council website has a list of school related jobs (admin included) you could try your local one? our local council has a freeze :(

I took me 9 months. Someone told me that a part time admin job at the local hospital had in excess of 300 applications.

Good luck with your search, don't be disheartened and try to improve your application each time you apply.

I had the help of a lovely MNer who looked over one of my applications and gave me a few pointers.

HTH

I'm not in admin, but would suggest enclosing a friendly, professional cover letter that summarizes why you want the job, relevant experience etc. I can't tell you the number of job applications I get that just say "please find enclosed...". Those who make an effort to write one or two paragraphs stand out.
